Birthday #7!!!

WHAT A WEEK! The week started with my appointment at school as the VIP (Very Important Pickle) and a once in a lifetime eclipse and culminated with my 7th birthday party and crazy Durham Bulls game!! Not to mention the Fun Run thrown in the middle!
I enjoyed my special week as the VIP for Mrs. Jackson. As the VIP I sat next to the teacher all week. in this job I got to call on people when they raised their hands, collect papers when they were complete, ask Mrs. Jackson whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and be the line leader. Because I was line leader for the week, that made me the flag bearer when it was time to lead my class out to the Fun Run on Friday morning! Friday also happened to be my actual birthday, which made it super cool! When they called out my class, we ran through the tunnel as I waved our class flag! I ran all my 35 laps (plus more) at the Fun Run and enjoyed my last day as the VIP.
Later that day, I got to talk to family that called to wish me a happy birthday. I got to open my birthday gifts from my the grandparents and enjoy my evening. I got some really great gifts - canvases to paint, a scrapbooking set and a book of silly jokes! For dinner, I had my favorite meal, crab casserole followed by a delicious chocolate unicorn cake! Luckily, Mom and Dad listened to me and got me what I wanted for my birthday - my very on rolling suitcase and umbrella. Woo hoo!
The fun did not stop on my birthday.  On Saturday evening, some of my friends came over and we had a party! We played some fun games in the backyard, then came in for dinner and a movie! It was fun having my friends here to celebrate my birthday with me!
My birthday weekend ended with a Durham Bulls game! All of Dad's coworkers were there so I got to meet some people that I hadn't met before. We enjoyed dinner, a fun baseball game and we even saw a helicopter fly into the stadium and drop lots of balls onto the field when the game was over. Then, we ran out onto the field to get a ball. It was crazy! I had a great birthday week - lots of cool memories! Now just two more weeks until vacation!!!!

The Great American Eclipse

Today (8/21/2017) I witnessed something historically spectacular! Like something that we will have to wait many years to maybe see again! I went to school for half a day and Mom picked Adam and me up early so that we could view the solar eclipse at home. When we got there, the show was just beginning to start. She had special glasses and a pinhole viewer to help us view the moon slowly cover up the sun. For an hour and a half, we periodically would check to see how much of the sun was covered, and when it was as far as it would go, it got dim outside, the crickets started to chirp and from the glasses I saw just a sliver of the sun. It was really cool to see, although I will say I was very nervous most of the time, worrying about going blind. While we only got to view a partial eclipse, we did see 93% of the sun covered by the moon, which is pretty neat. Now that it is over, I can say I am glad I saw such a cool event!

Braces

The braces are officially in my mouth. Here's a nice before and after of the metal that is inside my mouth:

I came out of my appointment with one less tooth in my mouth too! While the lady was putting the wire into my mouth she yanked it right out of my mouth. When she sat me up in the chair, I look at Mom with my head cocked so the side saying, "She pulled out my tooth!"
I also openly questioned why the orthodontist put the braces on my teeth crooked! Hopefully when I am all done with these things, they will be straight! It's been tough talking and eating with all the metal in my mouth; that is almost more of a nuisance than the soreness, which isn't so bad. Luckily, I'm doing a good job learning how to take care of my mouth. Plus, I was the most popular girl at school the day after I had my braces installed. I got sick of all the questions! Crazy! Maybe there will be more walls I can help demolish if the pain gets to me!
Posing with the hole I put in the wall!
